Obituary for Jessie James (Stark) Colvin

Jessie J. (Stark) Colvin was born in Hillsdale, Mich., on Nov. 3, 1916, the daughter of Harry and Estelle (Carver) Stark. The family eventually moved to Castalia, where she attended Margaretta Schools. Later, she attended and graduated from York School in 1934.

She died Thursday, March 26, 2015, in Elmwood Nursing Home, Green Springs, Ohio.

It was at York School where she met John Colvin, whom she married Nov. 21, 1936. John and Jessie lived and reared their children in the Bellevue/Clyde area. Jessie was a lady of many talents. She loved working outside in her yard and garden. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, including other types of needlework, and in later life she even began to paint in oils.

Jessie is survived by three children, Mrs. Nancy (Lyle) St. Clair of Fremont, John Jr. (Patricia) of North Fairfield and Kenneth (Marian) of Clyde. Preceding her in death was her husband, John, and her daughter, Janet Kaufman, as well as her parents and all five of her siblings.

She leaves 13 grandchildren, Kathleen (St. Clair) Hughes of Lawrenceville, Ga., Steven St. Clair of Santa Rosa, Calif., Michael St. Clair of Montebello, Calif., Gail (St. Clair) Engstrom of Peoria, Ariz., Bill Colvin of Peoria, Ariz., Dan Colvin of Fremont, Scot Sutherland of Newark, Ohio, Staci (Sutherland) Hamons of Greenwich, Ohio, Mark Kaufman of Bellevue, Wendy (Kaufman) Rohrbacher of Clyde, Jennifer (Kaufman) Cogdell of Perrysburg, Ohio, Beverly (Colvin) Wilson of Sandusky and Debra (Colvin) McDonald of Andover, Mass. There are also 29 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

Jessie Colvin was a great Mom, a wonderful Grandma, a well-loved Great-Grandma and a very special Great-Great-“Grandma Jessie.” She was greatly loved and respected by her family as well as by the many others who knew her. She will be greatly missed. However, we know she is now rejoicing in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, and with all those loved ones who have gone before.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 3, at the funeral home with the Rev. Ralph Flynn officiating. Burial will be in York Chapel Cemetery.
